Who We Are

Hubbell Communications is a public affairs firm with an exclusive focus on building the next generation of sustainable communities. We help clients plan, design, and build the next generation of critical infrastructure.

Our work focuses on the systemic challenges in energy, transportation, housing, and digital connectivity. This puts us at the intersection of community development, land use planning, sustainability, and public-private investment in everything from renewable energy facilities to data centers to the revitalization of our downtown core.

The work we do is about making progress that delivers critical economic benefits and services to make communities better places to live, work, and play – for everyone.

About This Role

As our Director of Community Engagement + Planning you’ll play a key role in advancing land use planning and development projects. In this role, you will be responsible for helping lead strategic planning, facilitation, coalition-building and management, and public outreach.

This requires you to work seamlessly across a mix of public engagement, public policy, and strategic communications. While a central focus of your expertise will be around community engagement, this role requires you to draw on a range of skills from policy analysis to government relations to developing effective public affairs campaigns.

In this role, you will help clients navigate the community, communications, and political landscape across a diverse portfolio of land use projects, including:

Developing and expanding energy infrastructure and renewable energy facilities, including solar, wind, battery storage, and clean fuels terminals.

Community Engagement.

You will design and implement engagement strategies that ensure communities have a voice in shaping projects that affect them. This includes facilitation, stakeholder mapping, and public meeting planning. You will be responsible for helping developers, planners, and builders plan and execute public information meetings, open houses, site tours, and conversations with property owners and neighborhood groups.

Relationship Building.

This role requires you to cultivate and maintain relationships with community leaders, advocacy organizations, and other key stakeholders. You will serve as a trusted voice for both clients and communities, helping bridge perspectives and find common ground.

Political Strategy.

While this role is not a lobbying position, you will be comfortable facilitating conversations with elected officials, agency staff, advocacy organizations, and state and local regulatory authorities. When needed, you will help build coalitions and support advocacy efforts that bolster support for projects at the state and local level.

Candidates should have some experience in a consultancy/ agency setting and an understanding of standard agency management practices – including management of client budgeting, reporting, time tracking, contracting, and fiscal planning.
